Teton Springs Golf & Casting Club in Victor, Idaho

Byron Nelson, Steve Jones & Gary Stephenson

Golf legend, Byron Nelson, and 1996 US Open Champion, Steve Jones, have teamed up with Gary Stephenson to design the golf course at the Teton Springs Golf and Casting Club in Driggs. The Teton Springs golf course, which is 20 miles west of Jackson Hole, Wyoming, will serve as the centerpiece of an exciting residential development where waterfalls, lakes, streams, and lush landscaping provide the theme. Painstaking effort was taken by the project owners, land planners and golf course designers to establish a golf course and residential component that would compliment each other, rather than creating conflict.

Over that span of nine months, numerous routing plans were developed to create a wonderful golf course that would take full advantage of the stunning views of the surrounding mountainous landscape, provide high quality golf, and highlight dramatic open space and view corridors from lots and streets. The end result is a golfers paradise; 18 holes of championship golf, a 9 hole par three golf course, an 18 hole bentgrass green putting course, and a practice facility planned for a future golf academy.

Nelson, Jones, and Stephenson have spent time together to discuss the desired feel of the course and the "playing conditions" that are created by grading schemes, hazard location off the tee and at the greens, and landscaping. "Dramatic, tradition" is the motto among the designers as they work for a course that will be truly enjoyable for all players. A minimum of five sits of tees will be provided on all holes to create proper "playing angles" for players of all skill levels. However, as playable as the designers made the course, the main difficulty will be concentrating on golf over the temptation to take photographs.
