South Mountain Golf Club in Draper, Utah

This beautiful golf course was literally carved out of the south range of the Wasatch Mountains just south of Salt Lake City. Restricted to using land that was 30% slopes and higher, over 1,500,000 cubic yards of dirt was moved to create this visually stunning and truly enjoyable golf course. The ever present theme during construction of the course was to "create a natural looking course perched on the side of a mountain that looked like it had been there for many years." An extensive native grass planting plan was implemented to reestablish the rugged look and feel, as well as providing habitat for animals and birds. Within weeks after the grand opening, the South Mountain Golf Club began receiving rave reviews as a majestic and native course.

The South Mountain Golf Club was designed and built during Gary Stephenon's tenure as Senior Designer with GPI.
